Young Achievers Forum Building the Pipeline for Career Preparation and Attainment
This annual event provides middle school students and their parents with college experience for a day and is designed to introduce postsecondary education as an achievable goal to families who may not otherwise have this exposure. Initiated in 2012, annually the Young Achievers Forum brings approximately 1,000 sixth grade students and 200 parents to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and New Mexico State University (NMSU) for a day of inspiration, motivation, and education. All 12 school districts in El Paso and Hudspeth Counties participate. In 2017, the success of the Young Achievers Forum was extended to Las Cruces, New Mexico in partnership with New Mexico State University (NMSU). Annually, 350 sixth grade students and 50 parents are inspired at the YAF event at NMSU.
COmmUNITY en Accion will host three forums for the 2023-2024 school year:
- Saturday, October 21, 2023, for 1,000 students and 200 parents from El Paso and Ysleta Independent School Districts.

Where Next Generation Leaders Are Made
The goal of this program is to provide middle school students with the knowledge and desire to follow their dreams and to gain an understanding of why the right education is important to achieve those dreams.
Parents also receive information on what they can do to help prepare their children for post-secondary education. It isn’t only good grades that guarantee a child’s future. Our forum gives parents some of the tools they will need to navigate the financial aid system that is in place to pay tuition for higher learning institutions.
Each forum begins with an opening session, and then participants rotate in groups through a series of presentations delivered by more than 100 professionals volunteering to speak about their careers. Presentations take place in classrooms around campus with more than 100 university student volunteers serving as guides to the middle school students throughout the day.
