Young Achievers Forum

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

The Young Achievers Forum is a result of a partnership between the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), New Mexico State University (NMSU) and Community en Acción (CEA), a local civic organization of leaders dedicated to instilling pride in our community.

This annual event brings together over 1,000 6th - 8th grade students from all across the greater El Paso and southern New Mexico areas to provide first-hand exposure to a college campus. Students are inspired to expand their horizons by exploring a future career and gaining a new educational perspective.

Where Next Generation Leaders Are Made

The goal of this program is to provide middle school students with the knowledge and desire to follow their dreams and to gain an understanding of why the right education is important to achieve those dreams.

The program brings middle school students and their parents to campus for a day of inspiration, motivation and education. Students are exposed to four broad career fields throughout their visit: STEM, Health/Medical Sciences, Business/Finance, and Liberal Arts. YAF is an experience that is packed with fun and engaging hands-on activities that bring the concepts of post-secondary education to life.

Each forum begins with an opening session, and then participants rotate in groups through a series of presentations delivered by more than 100 professionals volunteering to speak about their careers. Presentations take place in classrooms around campus with more than 100 university student volunteers serving as guides to the middle school students throughout the day.

Parents also receive information on what they can do to help prepare their children for post-secondary education. It isn't only good grades that guarantee a child's future. Our forum gives parents some of the tools they will need to navigate the financial aid system that is in place to pay tuition for higher learning institutions.
